Ringing in the Ears

Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, is a very common complaint. Although multiple medical conditions can be associated with tinnitus, a thorough medical examination and appropriate testing will usually prove that the tinnitus is simply a side effect of hearing loss. Tinnitus is a popular topic at out “lunch and learn” seminars.

Ear Aches

Ear aches are extremely common and may be due to a variety of conditions, from swimmer’s ear to throat cancer. If you have persistent pain or fail to respond to initial treatment, further evaluation may be necessary.

Ear Surgery

Ear surgery is most commonly performed to improve hearing or alleviate pain due to otitis media, or to repair perforations. Less common surgeries are necessary to improve congenital deformities. Certain types of conductive hearing loss can also be repaired surgically. A thorough examination by an ENT physician and audiologist is necessary to determine if your hearing loss may be surgically improved.
