RADIESSE wrinkle filler does more than just “fill-in” lines and facial wrinkles – it replenishes volume by stimulating the production of your own natural collagen. This can help bring back your natural, youthful appearance with results that last a year or more. Radiesse is best used for the deeper lines and around the nose and mouth, such as the marionette lines and nasolabial creases. Radiesse can improve the appearance of jowls by filling the depression in front of the jowls. Injections at the oral commissures can elevate down-turned corners and fill “drool lines.” Larger volumes can be used to correct hollow cheeks and temples. Radiesse has also been used to elegantly refine minor imperfections in the nose, elevate depressed scars, or correct other small facial deformities. Compared to hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® and Juvéderm®, Radiesse is injected deeper into the dermis or subcutaneous tissues and it is not recommended for superficial injection into the lips or eyelids.
Common Uses of Radiesse
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Corner of the mouth
- Pre-jowl region
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxyapatite, an FDA-approved dermal filler that is similar to a substance found in our bones. No animals or animal products are used during its production, and no skin testing is needed. Radiesse provides immediate and predictable volume replacement that can be seen the same day. Over several months, your body slowly metabolizes the product in a process that stimulates new growth of your own collagen. This new collagen maintains the volume for more than a year, before gradually resorbing.
Radiesse is injected through tiny needles into the deeper dermis and subcutaneous tissue. It is usually mixed with a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. A topical cream may also be applied half an hour before the injection. The procedure takes about 30 minutes, and is not as painful as one might expect. You may apply make-up or resume normal activity immediately.
Safety of Radiesse
The risks of Radiesse are small, and always temporary. Bruising is a potential side effect of any injection procedure, so discontinue any aspirin or blood thinners a week before treatment if your primary physician feels it is safe to do without. Small nodules may be noticed, and should be firmly massaged 5 times daily during the first week to help distribute the product evenly. You may notice mild warmth or tenderness after a few weeks as your body generates new collagen. Overcorrection, undercorrection, asymmetry or other disappointment may be improved with additional injections or the passage of time.
