The latest technology in minimally invasive facial rejuvenation is the fractional CO2 laser. The fractional laser is effective in treating facial lines and wrinkles, volume loss, dark or age spots, sun damage, discoloration, and acne scars.
Laser resurfacing uses small beams of light energy in the skin, which encourages the body to form new collagen and to produce new skin with an even texture and tone. Fractional CO2 lasers use computer technology to break up or fractionate the beam of energy into tiny beamlets before entering the skin. What this means is that rather than treating the entire surface area of the skin, only a portion of the skin is treated (for example 30% of the skin instead of 100%). By doing so, the laser leaves behind healthy untreated areas of skin in between the areas which have received laser energy. This allows for rapid healing of the skin with maximum results and minimal recovery time, often accomplished in only one session. Over time the natural aging process and exposure to sun and pollution destroys our body’s natural collagen — the main protein in our skin that keeps skin smooth, taught and wrinkle-free. Our skin also begins to lose its even tone and color, which contribute to a more “weathered” appearance.
