October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month — Dr. Armstrong is a Volunteer Physician with AAFPRS FACE TO FACE Program

In honor of October as National Domestic Violence Awareness month, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and FACE TO FACE have teamed up to share the following infographic to spotlight the important issue of Domenstic Violence.

Dr. Armstrong is a volunteer for the FACE TO FACE program , which provides free reconstructive facial surgery for referred patients who have been injured by a spouse, parent or intimate partner. Dr. Armstrong is an expert in repair of nasal fractures, and skilled in scar revisions.

Dr. Armstrong is also a published expert on strangulation , which is one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence. Victims of strangulation are seven times more likely to be murdered by their intimate partner than are victims of other types of domestic violence. Strangulation crimes are reported daily in the greater Richmond community, but often go unpunished because the victim fails to report or seek medical attention. Prompt evaluation by a specialist is critical to protect the victim from further injury and to gather the forensic information that can protect her from future abuse, injury or death.  Dr. Armstrong has served as an expert witness assisting defense attorneys, prosecutors and victims to try strangulation crimes.
